About SLHI

St. Luke’s Health Initiatives (SLHI) is a Phoenix-based public foundation focused on Arizona health policy, community development and capacity building.

Our work is focused primarily in Maricopa County – the greater Phoenix metropolitan area – although we are occasionally engaged in statewide projects.

Our mission – to inform, connect and support efforts to improve the health of individuals and communities in Arizona – is carried out in the following areas:

Health Policy. SLHI’s health policy and education work is dedicated to relevant and timely engagement, research and analysis; development of balanced, non-partisan information and perspectives on health issues in Arizona; serving as a convener and forum for the critical discussion of those issues in an independent and policy-neutral setting; and translating good ideas into action. Community Development. SLHI’s community development work arises from carefully cultivated conversations and an openness to surprise. Convening, grants and strategic resource allocations are characteristic of SLHI’s investments in improving communities of place, practice and identity in order to improve community health.

Capacity Building. SLHI’s capacity building work is rooted in the core belief that collaborative spaces and support create remarkable and often serendipitous possibilities. Through team-based collaborative consulting, 501(c)(3) developmental assistance and a full array of fiscal sponsorship support services, SLHI’s Technical Assistance Partnership participants are building capacity beyond typical expectations.
SLHI remains dedicated to successful stewardship of Medical Assistance grants using the portion of our funds that are restricted to direct funding for persons in need through a network of community health partners. We also continue to enjoy historical partnerships with our Affiliate Organizations, providing support to The Board of Visitors and The Hon Kachina Council. Both formerly raised funds for SLHI’s predecessor non-profit hospital system and now raise funds for community health needs and volunteer recognition.
